MIAMI GARDENS ― The Miami Dolphins held out many key players in a preseason game against the New York Giants at Hard Rock Stadium.
But coach Jeff Hafley, coaching his first game at home, wanted many of his 13 rookies to see action in Preseason Week 2.
Here is our rookie report card:
Miami Dolphins rookies report card vs. New York Giants
G Kadyn Proctor
Proctor played only the first series at left guard. The Dolphins went 3-and-out.
Grade: B
CB Chris Johnson
Johnson played outside cornerback for the Dolphins in the first quarter. The Giants scored a touchdown on their first possession.
Grade: B
LB Jacob Rodriguez
Rodriguez was unable to stop Jameis Winston as he ran in a touchdown in the first quarter. Rodriguez was trying to get him out of bounds at the last minute.
Rodriguez was pulled in the first quarter and given the rest of the day off.
Grade: C+
WR Caleb Douglas
Douglas was not targeted in limited action.
Grade: C+
TE Will Kacmarek
Kacmarek had a nice catch on a short out-route from Cam Miller.
Grade: B
Edge Trey Moore
Moore went down with an injury in the first quarter and was on his back.
Moore had his hands on his helmet. Moore applied no pressure to left leg as he left the field.
Moore, who had a quarterback hit before the injury, was taken off the field on a cart.
Grade: N/A (Injury)
LB Kyle Louis
Louis had a successful pass coverage of a Jameis Winston pass in Miami’s end zone.
Louis played at safety opposite Dante Trader in the second quarter.
Grade: B
S Michael Taaffe
Taaffe was picked up by the Giants on a first-quarter blitz.
Taaffee was involved in a successful third-down coverage against Tanner Conner.
Grade: B
WR Kevin Coleman
Coleman could not haul in a sideline pass from Cam Miller in the first quarter.
Then Coleman could not haul in a deep pass over the middle on third down, facing tight coverage.
Coleman hauled in a deep pass from Cam Miller on the right sideline while being mugged by a defensive back. The gain was 30 yards.
Coleman could not haul in a pass over the middle on third down in the second quarter.
Grade: B
TE Seydou Traore
Traore had one catch for three yards in the first half.
Grade: C+
G DJ Campbell
Campbell entered the game for Kadyn Proctor at left guard after one series.
Campbell was defending a Giant who nearly caused a safety of Cam Miller.
Campbell helped open a big hole for Ollie Gordon II up the middle in the second quarter. The run was negated by a hold on Charlie Heck.
Grade: C
Edge Max Llewelyn
Llewelyn received a big opportinity as a pass rusher in this game.
Grade: C
