The Miami Dolphins spent the first half of Saturday’s preseason game getting overwhelmed by the New York Giants. During halftime, it looked they went looking for help in the way of a midgame transaction.
The Dolphins announced they had claimed rookie cornerback Jai’Onte McMillan off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts during halftime of a lopsided exhibition at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
New York outgained Miami 248-87 and built a 20-3 halftime lead in the exhibition.
McMillan played collegiately at Minnesota and TCU before signing with Indianapolis as an undrafted free agent this spring. The Dolphins become the second NFL stop for the rookie defensive back.
The move comes as Miami searches for answers entering the regular season. Through six preseason quarters against the Giants and Washington Commanders, the Dolphins had been outscored 40-10.
