The Memorial Tournament is referred to as playing at Jack’s Place with the legendary Jack Nicklaus founding and hosting the event. But the past two years, you could call it Scottie’s Place after the man who’s owned the competition at Muirfield Village.
Scottie Scheffler leads the 72-player Signature Event field as the two-time defending champion, winning last year’s title by a comfortable four strokes. He looks to become the tournament’s second back-to-back-to-back champ after Tiger Woods did it from 1999-2001. The world No. 1 hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since his season debut in January, but he has gone in the top three in four of his last five outings.
Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick are back for the first time since the PGA Championship, as is Aaron Rai, the winner at Aronimink. Golfers can’t be too cozy with the limited field; there is still a weekend cut to contend with.
