We’re fortunate to live in a community where rocket launches have become almost ordinary.
So ordinary maybe you don’t even step outside anymore to watch. Or it’s not until your windows rattle that you realize: ah, another launch.

The sheer number of launches can also take some of the shine off our stunning launch photography. It shouldn’t because our team of photographers go out of their way to capture creative shots from every liftoff. Take for example Malcolm Denemark’s photo of the early Dec. 16 launch of an Atlas V rocket.
The clouds, the rocket streak, the reflection over the water — this is a stunning photograph. The mere fact that these kinds of images have become so routine for us shouldn’t diminish its beauty.
Denemark’s photo is a natural photo of the week. But this week (let’s call it, editor’s prerogative since I’m filling in and writing this feature), we have a second photo of the week as well. So, photos of the week.
This second photo was taken by photographer Tim Shortt. This was on Tim’s day off but he loves animals and couldn’t resist. The photo shows Rigs being badged as the first therapy dog with the Melbourne Fire Department. Rigs is a rescued Poodle/Boerboel — and he’s absolutely adorable in his bowtie.
