Marion County high school football: Our three boldest predictions for Week 5 of the season

Midway through the Marion County high school football season the Star Banner’s crystal ball shines with new predictions. The theme for this week is overcoming obstacles.

The visions from the Oracle showed us West Port, Trinity Catholic, and North Marion pulling off achievements they’ve neared this season. In week 5 the odds are shifting in their favor.

Without giving too much away from Friday night’s games we’ve deduced how each team listed below will come out on top. Stay tuned this is the final prediction show before next week’s prediction progress report.

West Port gets first win of 2025

Citrus and West Port are 0-4 and ready to change their misfortunes. It’s just a matter of who gets to change the goose egg in the win column first.

My money is on the program that’s kept each game they’ve played against projected playoff contenders Dunnellon and Apopka. Week 6 is the week the defense is strong enough to keep them in games and help them score on upper echelon defenses will help coach Nunn get the first win of his head coaching career.

Citrus on the other hand scored six points while giving up through four games. The Hurricanes defense is even more porous giving up 182 points since the beginning of the season.

Colts win shoot out

North Marion in the second highest scoring offense in Marion County high school football this season. Their 27 point per game outsides have resulted in a 2-2 record with an elite passing game.

Williston is scoring 49 points per game, but their last two wins have been against Paxon and Lake Minneola, two teams who have given up video game level offensive performances.

The Colts are a decent run stopping team after learning their lesson against Forest in week 1. If they can hold the line against the Red Devils, they’ll have a path to outscore them Friday night.

Celtics get the upset

Trinity Catholic was considered the underdog coming into the 2025 season. At 2-1 they’ve overcome expectations while playing through the bumps and bruises of a new coaching staff.

They’ve picked up signature wins on the road and protected the house in head football coach Clinton Hart home debut. The next step is for the Celtics to go big fish hunting. To stay above .500, they’ll need upset the apple cart in the second half of the season.

That starts in week five as when the Celtics attempt to knock off a Chiefland team that came within a touchdown of going to overtime with the Belleview Rattlers. If the Celtics lean on Wyatt Lucas and the run game the path to a three-game win streak opens up.
