Makeshift raft washed up on Jupiter Island

MARTIN COUNTY — An apparent makeshift raft was reported Oct. 25 washing up on the shore of Jupiter Island, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office in a 4:58 p.m. Oct. 25 social media post stated the U.S. Coast Guard indicated the raft “was initially spotted near the Florida Keys several days ago and was marked at that time. It is believed to have drifted north due to recent storm systems and strong wave activity.”

Jupiter Island is in extreme southeast Martin County.

The specific location on Jupiter Island where the raft was reported was not immediately available Oct. 27.

“The Coast Guard has confirmed there is no indication of a recent landing in our area associated with this vessel,” the sheriff’s office stated.
