If you live in Lehigh Acres, LeeTran has something for you.
The public transit system is offering half-price fares under a pilot program that began June 12. The reduced fare is for the ULTRA mobility on demand rides to and from its new Lehigh Acres site at 1121 Village Lakes Drive.
The new fare is $1.50, down from $3 a ride.
This initiative aims to enhance transfer station use, promote convenience for residents and increase connectivity to LeeTran’s fixed-route transit services.
The Lehigh Acres Park & Ride transit station had its grand opening in April. It provides rider amenities such as covered seating areas, public restrooms, mobile device charging stations and more.
LeeTran’s current routes (110 and 515) run on the corridor between Lehigh Acres and Fort Myers. The routes travel from the Edison Mall to the Lehigh Acres Park & Ride and onward to Joel Boulevard via Homestead Road.
Lowering the fare will benefit those who rely on transit as their primary mode of transportation, improving access to essential services, employment opportunities and recreational facilities.
“We believe this initiative will increase the Lehigh Acres station utilization, which in turn supports the goals of increasing ridership on Lehigh Acres fixed routes and Mobility on Demand services,” Dominic Gemelli, director of Lee County Transit, said.
