LEAD Brevard has named a new CEO to take over running the Space Coast nonprofit dedicating to developing and encouraging community leadership.
Rachel Rutledge has been selected to replace longtime LEAD Brevard leader Kristin Bakke, who is retiring next month after 25 years at the helm.
Rutledge currently serves as Career and Technical Education Director for Brevard Public Schools. In that role, she leads initiatives that prepare students for careers that align with the county’s workforce and economic development needs. LEAD Brevard said Rutledge will bring extensive experience in education, leadership development, and community collaboration to her new role.
“LEAD Brevard plays a vital role in developing informed, connected, and forward‑thinking leaders for our community,” Rutledge said in a news release. “I am honored to step into this role and build on the organization’s strong legacy while continuing to create meaningful leadership experiences that strengthen Brevard County.”
Bakke had led LEAD Brevard for more than two decades, guiding the nonprofit through significant growth.
“It has been a privilege to serve our community,” Bakke said. “Rachel is an exceptional leader with a deep understanding of Brevard, and I am confident she will pilot LEAD Brevard into a strong and innovative future.”
Monica Newman McCluney, chairman of LEAD Brevard’s board, said that Rutledge is bringing “vision, experience and a collaborative mindset” to the organization.
Rutledge’s first day is May 1, and she will work closely with Bakke throughout the month until Bakke’s May 31 retirement.
