Last show at Intuition Ale Works, first at new Duval Hall this weekend

What’s that saying about April going out like a lion? On the last weekend of the month in Jacksonville, you can say farewell to one music venue while welcoming another across town, spend an evening listening to some of Nashville’s hottest songwriters, tour hundred-year-old homes, watch a parade or enjoy animal-themed classical music performed at the zoo.

Jacksonville loses a music venue on Friday, but gains one as well.

When Yonder Mountain String Band takes the stage around 7 p.m. Friday, it’ll be the final show at downtown Jacksonville’s Intuition Ale Works, which is shutting down as a brewer and venue (Adam Aijala, the band’s guitarist, said the crowds at Intuition were “killer” and that he’s “bummed” it’s closing). Tickets are $42.

Across town at the same time, Jacksonville-based metal band Allele will perform at Duval Hall, the concert venue at the new Jacksonville Fairgrounds on Normandy Boulevard, at one of the first ticketed events at the venue. Tickets are $22.

Springfield Tour of Homes and Gardens

April 25-26 in Springfield. $30.

Start at the SPAR building on North Main Street and tour seven homes in one of Jacksonville’s oldest neighborhoods. Free shuttles will be provided. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Info: sparcouncil.org

Roscolusa Songwriters Festival

5 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Nocatee Splash Park. $35-$130.

You might not recognize the performers, but you’ll know the songs they wrote for Chris Stapleton, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Leanne Rimes, Kelsea Ballerini and others. Info: roscalusa.com

Opening of the Beaches parade

2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Jacksonville Beach. Free.

The beaches in Florida don’t ever really close, but that’s no reason not to have a parade. Info: jacksonvillebeach.org

‘Carnival of the Animals’

4 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at the Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Free with zoo admission.

The Civic Orchestra of Jacksonville performs a program of animal-themed classical music, including selections from “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book,” in the most appropriate of settings. Info: civicorchestrajax.org
