A 27-year-old Lakeland man is being held without bond after showing up to a 16-year-old girl’s DeLand home and firing “multiple gunshots into the ground outside” when she wouldn’t let him inside, according to a Volusia Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Joseph William Danger Woodard was arrested on charges of stalking, armed trespassing, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, discharging a firearm on residential property, and resisting,” the sheriff’s office said.
He is being held in the Volusia County jail.
16-year-old DeLand girl woke up to ‘rattling’ window
According to deputies, Woodard met the 16-year-old on Snapchat.
“The girl reported Woodard showed up uninvited twice, on Thursday (July 30) and Friday (July 31), and she refused to let him inside,” the post said. “She was sleeping on Friday when she woke up to a window rattling and saw Woodard outside. When she opened the door to show him she was calling for help, he put his foot in the doorway. She was still able to close it.”
After firing “multiple gunshots into the ground outside the home,” Woodard “left the area in a red Toyota hatchback,” according to the post.
The girl was not injured.
Around 22 minutes later, deputies saw Woodard’s car “about 11 miles away” from the victim’s house, “headed north on State Road 11 toward Flagler County,” the post states. “Deputies stopped the vehicle just north of State Road 11 and State Road 40 and detained Woodard despite his resistance.”
Deputies said they found seven spent shell casings, two 9mm handguns, boxes containing about 350 9mm rounds, and six Glock pistol magazines inside Woodard’s car.
According to the Volusia County Corrections website, Woodard was booked 12:11 a.m. on Aug. 1.
