When can school start in Florida for the 2026-2027 school year?
Florida law prohibits schools from starting any earlier than Aug. 10.
When does school start up again for Florida students? See the list by county
Thirty-nine of Florida’s 67 counties will start the 2026-2027 school year on the earliest possible date, Monday, Aug. 10. Three counties will start on Thursday, Aug. 13.
What are ‘hurricane days’ in Florida?
“Hurricane days” are days designated in case a regular school day is canceled due to severe weather.
Florida law specifies that for a public kindergarten student to be considered a full-time student, he or she must receive a minimum of 720 net hours of instruction or four hours per day, based on 180 school days, according to the Florida Department of Education.
