Jimmy Kimmel has found himself at the receiving end of the Trumps’ ire again.
President Donald Trump said Kimmel should be fired in a Truth Social post on April 27, and first lady Melania Trump said Kimmel used “hateful and violent rhetoric.” Days earlier, Kimmel had made a joke calling Melania Trump “an expectant widow.”
In his April 27 monologue, Kimmel addressed the calls from the Trumps.
“(It) obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they’re together,” he said. “It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am.”

What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Melania Trump?
Kimmel’s joke about Melania Trump was delivered in his “Alternative White House Correspondents’ Dinner” segment on April 23, two days before the real event in Washington, DC, which ended early in chaos after a shooter opened fire outside the dining room.
“So beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,” Kimmel said. “You know, Melania’s birthday is on Sunday. That’s right. She’s planning to celebrate at home the same way she always does, looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?'”
President Trump called Kimmel’s comments a “despicable call to violence,” in a April 27 Truth Social post.
Kimmel, the night of the comments, said his joke “was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination.”
Kimmel said it was “deja vu” getting all the attention for this comment. Kimmel’s show was temporarily pulled from the air in September after his comments on Republicans’ reaction to the murder of Charlie Kirk. Trump has previously called for the firing of late-night hosts, including Kimmel.
