There is a myth that goldfish have the shortest memory of any creature. Regardless of whether or not it is true, the ability to forget things quickly has been adopted in athletics — a mindset to not harp on mistakes, but to instead focus on the next play.
With that in mind, win or lose, Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a goldfish.
The Jaguars’ signal-caller had a 26th birthday for the ages on Monday night, as Jacksonville hosted the reigning AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs, in an epic come-from-behind victory to improve to 4-1 on the year.
“The only thing we are guaranteed is that we are going to win four games this year, which isn’t enough,” Lawrence said on Wednesday.
Lawrence has already seemed to erase those memories and feelings from that win, as he and his team prepare for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, October 12.
“I think that guys know that we play a really good Seattle team this week. If you’re still thinking about the game we just won, then that’s a problem,” Lawrence said. “We gotta move on.”
Lawrence and the Jaguars battled back from being down 14-0 early in the game to put together an impressive two-minute drive to take the lead with a near-disaster touchdown run from Lawrence.
Lawrence praised his teammates for their effort, not just against Kansas City, but for what they have shown all season long.
“I really like our group and how mature we are; we’ve handled everything well so far,” Lawrence said. “We’ve got to continue to do that.”
