Wide receiver Parker Washington had a breakout season in 2025 for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and proved to be one of the most reliable targets for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He has had a strong performance so far during training camp, and proven that he is still a favorite in the wide receiver room.
In a post-training camp press conference, Washington spoke about his relationship with Lawrence, and how the trust between the two of them has steadily grown.
“On the field, off the field, you know, the communication is different, and then obviously, the trust he’s having in me on some of these passes is really cool,” he said. “I know a couple years ago, he probably wouldn’t throw some of the passes he’s throwing out to me, so it’s just really cool to just, for him to have that trust in me, and I’m gonna continue to make sure that he has that, and I’m gonna make those plays for him.”
Like Lawrence, Washington improved as the season went on, and surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the Jaguars’ final four games. In that final month, he tied for 12th among all receivers in receptions and was eighth in yards. Altogether, he ended the season with 58 passes for 847 yards and five touchdowns, according to PFF.
His success last season has led to constant speculation about his contract, but he said he is remaining focused on what he can control — his performance — and maintaining that bond with Lawrence.
“I ain’t gonna say who’s smarter or not, but we just work off each other,” Washington said. “Like he has the training side. I don’t step on his toes, but when it comes to the football side, he listens, and that’s what made our bond special. We just make each other better. He challenges me, I challenge him, and that’s what I feel like that’s what made a big step and helped me through my career … My focus is just coming out here, and I need to make plays for Trevor, so that’s my mindset and that’s how I’m gonna attack it. I’m not gonna step on my agent’s toes. They can have those conversations. I’m just gonna come out here and do my job.”
