True freshman wide receiver Jasen Lopez has been one of the stars of fall camp for the Florida State Seminoles, and he showcased his playmaking once again on Thursday. FSU made its annual trip to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville this week, giving them a chance to simulate going on the road and focus solely on football.
They released some photos and a clip of Thursday’s practice on social media. The video showed Lopez making an impressive contested catch, beating out cornerback Charles Lester III and safety CJ Richard Jr. on a ball that was underthrown by backup quarterback Kevin Sperry.
Lopez has impressed throughout spring and fall camp, garnering praise from several members of the coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Tony White.
“He’s that guy,” he said. “He’s that, I mean, twitchy, coordinated, like instinctive.
“You see that stuff on the field now? Like, I mean, whether he’s returning punts, his slot, you know, the double moving, like catch a damn screen and make three guys miss. Like he’s electric, man. He’s really electric”
While he is only a true freshman, Lopez has a chance to emerge as a key part of FSU’s passing attack this season. Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy are the only established players, and with Jayvan Boggs battling injury, Lopez has taken advantage of his chances in fall camp.
