There was some movement and experimenting along the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line during Friday’s training camp practice.
As noted by Jamal St. Cyr in his Day 3 camp takeaways, Anton Harrison “spent the day at left tackle” and not his usual spot at right tackle. So over on the right side was Walker Little.
This isn’t new by any means. It’s something we saw the Jaguars try last summer as well.
But after Harrison put together a strong 2025 season on the right side under Liam Coen, why would the team have him at left tackle in practice? Tony Boselli explained the reasoning while appearing on the ‘Brent and Austen Show.’
“We did the same thing last year,” Boselli said. “We move offensive linemen around during this period of time. And the reason why is, look at last year when we had injuries; we did not miss a beat at the offensive line. Why? Because Walker Little could go from left tackle to right guard. Cole Van Lanen played four positions for us last year. Right tackle, right guard, left guard, and then ultimately at left tackle at the end of the year, and so we want that same flexibility.”
Harrison lining up at left tackle Friday doesn’t have anything to do with where Van Lanen is at in his recovery as he continues to work his way back from a knee injury. Rather, repping players at different positions gives the Jaguars options if certain situations arise.
“It has nothing to do with Cole at all,” Boselli added. “Cole’s on track. He’s had a great offseason. He’s coming back and he’s going to be strong. He’ll be ready to go when the time’s right. But we’re just moving guys around, getting the feel. Anton, some people could argue was at this natural position. That’s what he played at Oklahoma, and so wanted to get him some reps over there today. But you’ll see guys at guard, tackle, different positions, different mix of five because ultimately we want to get our best five on the field when we play the Cleveland Browns.”
Van Lanen is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Coen recently provided an update on how he’s progressing, although no timeline to return was mentioned.
