Six Palm Coast employees within the Community Development Department have been terminated, the city announced late afternoon on July 31.
According to the announcement, the decision is part of “ongoing efforts to align operations with the fiscal direction established by the City Council.”
The news comes after several City Council workshop budget discussions, during which the majority of board members expressed concerns over costs planned for the 2026-27 and asked city staff to find ways to lower cost within their departments.
The six employees terminated include “code enforcement manager, animal control officer, temporary staff assistant, land management coordinator, landscape architect and temporary animal control officer.”
The city did not specifically name any of the employees, nor did it say how much money the it would save.

In an announcement sent by city spokeswoman Brittnay Kershaw, the city said “decisions like these are never easy and are made only after careful evaluation of the organization’s operational needs and long-term financial responsibilities.”
City Manager Mike McGlothlin “approved” the terminations based on “the recommendation” of the Community Development Director John Zobler.
The restructuring within the department is “designed to improve efficiency and ensure the department is positioned to continue delivering high-quality service to our residents,” according to the announcement.
“We sincerely appreciate the service and contributions of the employees affected by these changes and wish them the very best.”
