Jack Nicklaus joins business leaders at career transitions symposium

The Selfless Love Foundation recently hosted a symposium with business leaders to discuss career transitions after major success. The event, called “The Next Chapter: A Second Summit on Leadership,” was held March 10 at Wells Fargo Private Bank in Palm Beach.

Panelists included 18-time major golf champion and course designer Jack Nicklaus, former Patrón Spirits Co. CEO Ed Brown and former LPGA golfer and sports marketing executive Lynn Connelly Ross.

Golf led to new opportunities for Jack Nicklaus

Nicklaus, a long-time resident of North Palm Beach, shared his perspective on moving forward after a successful career. He emphasized the importance of finding passion in one’s pursuits.

“Golf was a game. I never looked at it as being the sole thing I was doing in life. I love golf, I love my family, and I love helping the community,” Nicklaus said. “Whatever your career choice is, find something you love. That is what puts energy into your life.”

Competitive spirit was key for business leaders

Brown discussed his transition from leading Patrón to launching a new vodka brand. He highlighted his competitive nature as a driving force.

“When I left Patrón, I felt a hunger to do something. I missed being in the trenches, working with my people,” said Brown, of Palm Beach. “It’s hard to be successful in a consumer brand; to do it twice is even harder. I am extremely competitive, so that was a driving force for me.”

Ross, who shifted from a successful golfing career to sports marketing, likened her business achievements to victories on the golf course.

“After the LPGA, success in business became my scoreboard. I wanted to build the best sports marketing firm in the country,” Ross said. “As we created interesting programs that got recognition, that became my win.”

Symposium supported upcoming fundraiser

The symposium was exclusively for Selfless Love Foundation supporters and sponsors of the organization’s upcoming gala. The fundraiser is scheduled for April 11 and will benefit children in foster care.

According to the announcement, Selfless Love Foundation has facilitated more than 700 adoptions, housed more than 700 aged-out youth and served nearly 10,000 children and youth through its programs, education and advocacy efforts.

The Selfless Love Foundation was established by Ed and Ashley Brown.
