Palm Bay detectives working on a missing person case recovered human remains from a site this week following a drug arrest at a home raided by the SWAT team.
The police department confirmed that it is investigating the unidentified missing person case at two locations. The search, using cadaver dogs, uncovered skeletal remains in a wooded area off of Santo Domingo Avenue.
The initial investigation began Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a SWAT team descending on a house located in the 100 block of Turk Road.
The SWAT team members carried out a search warrant for the residence, locating multiple burned pieces of foil and plastic baggies containing a white powdery substance, police reported.
The resident, George Mancilla, was arrested on drug paraphernalia charges and violation of probation. The 51-year-old was later transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes. Mancilla, who was not present during his bond hearing, was ordered held at the jail.
Police did not elaborate on whether Mancilla was connected to the missing person case.
Detectives are working with the medical examiner’s office to confirm the identity of the remains and potentially, how the person died.
