For Week 5 of the FHSAA season Eau Gallie, Melbourne, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach and Viera all earned wins. Space Coast and Holy Trinity won games for Week 6 of the SSAA season, and Satellite improved to 6-0 in the SSAA.
Eau Gallie 25, Cocoa 13
In Cocoa, Eau Gallie picked up a big win over Cocoa. Xavier Lherisse and X’Zavier Corbin both scored two rushing touchdowns for the Commodores.
Corbin opened up the scoring for Eau Gallie with a 17-yard rushing touchdown with 6:18 left in the first quarter. Cocoa took a 7-6 lead with 2:34 on the clock in the first when CJ Hester caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Troy Silberzahn.
In the second quarter, Corbin scored his second touchdown on a 4-yard run to give Eau Gallie a 12-7 lead at halftime.
Lherisse scored a 65-yard rushing touchdown on the Commodores’ first drive of the third quarter to extend the lead. Cocoa cut the lead down to five after Silberzahn connected with O’Kece Battle on a 34-yard touchdown pass.
In the fourth quarter, Lherisse scored his second touchdown of the night on a 21-yard run to round out the scoring.
Next week, Eau Gallie (3-2) will host Titusville for a district game. Cocoa (2-3) goes to Miami Norland on Oct. 3 after a bye week for its next game.
Melbourne 59, Palm Bay 7
In Melbourne, Melbourne High handled host Palm Bay in the Battle on Babcock.
In the first quarter, Kymarion Johnson, Mikey Rogers and CJ Hall all scored rushing touchdown to build a 21-0 lead for the Bulldogs.
Early in the second quarter, Tyrese Jefferson caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Hall to add to Melbourne’s lead. Palm Bay scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter after Byron Thompson threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Timothy Sedaros with 10:25 left in the second quarter.
Luis Martinez made a 34-yard field goal and Jefferson scored a 16-yard rushing touchdown to give Melbourne a 31-7 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, EJ Hall caught a 24-yard pass from CJ Hall, and in the fourth, Jefferson ran 64 yards for a touchdown and Jeremiah Thomas caught a 19-yard pass from Rogers.
The Bulldogs (4-1) host district opponent Kissimmee Osceola for their next game, while Palm Bay (2-3) goes to Satellite for Week 6.
Woodford County (Ky.) 35, Heritage 17
In Palm Bay, Heritage fell to Woodford County for its Week 5 game.
The visitors from Kentucky scored first after Omari Joyner caught a 16-yard pass from Jace Carroll. Dreyvon Lee scored on a 24-yard run to tie the game in the first quarter for Heritage.
Woodford County went on to score twice in the second quarter to put the score at 21-7 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets also scored two more touchdowns in the second half.
Malik Clark scored the Panthers’ second touchdown on a 43-yard run in the fourth quarter. Heritage (1-4) goes to South Fork for Week 6.
Merritt Island 24, St. Cloud 21
In Merritt Island, the Mustangs won a Week 5 battle against St. Cloud. Ethan Holt intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for a score to push Merritt Island to the win with a little over six minutes left in the final quarter.
The Mustangs trailed St. Cloud 21-10 heading into the fourth quarter. With 7:35 left to play, Merritt Island quarterback Kevin Verpaele connected with Drew Sarver on a 60-yard touchdown pass to cut into the Bulldogs’ lead prior to Holt’s interception.
Earlier in the game, Merritt Island took the first lead of the night after Raundae Monroe scored a 9-yard rushing touchdown. Owen Sullivan caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Jeremiah Lattier in the second quarter for St. Cloud.
Merritt Island kicker Liam Miller made a 20-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter to bring the Mustangs within four points of the Bulldogs. In the third quarter, Sullivan caught a 38-yard pass from Lattier.
Merritt Island (3-2) goes to Jacksonville for a game against ED White for Week 6.
Cocoa Beach 28, St. Edward’s 25
In Vero Beach, Cocoa Beach earned a Week 5 road win over St. Edward’s.
Gage Stanley scored the first touchdown of the night for the Minutemen after he intercepted a pass and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown with 5:40 left in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Kaden Ford caught a 7-yard pass from Remy Vigne to extend Cocoa Beach’s lead. St. Edward’s scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to put the halftime score at 15-12.
Vigne threw two touchdown passes to Cajais Robinson in the third quarter, while St. Edward’s scored once in the quarter. The Pirates scored once more in the fourth but the Minutemen held on to win the game.
Cocoa Beach (2-3) is set to host Space Coast for its next game.
Bishop Moore 41, MCC 13
In Melbourne, MCC lost to Bishop Moore. Amar’e Johnson’s 8-yard rushing touchdown and Blake McCullough’s 60-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Estrada put Bishop Moore ahead 12-0 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Will Stewart made two field goals for the Hustlers. Estrada extended Bishop Moore’s lead on a 1-yard run with 1:13 left to play before halftime.
Bishop Moore scored three more touchdowns in the second half. Grady Bonenberger grabbed a 3-yard touchdown pass from Sebastian Troyen in the fourth quarter for MCC. The Hustlers (1-3) welcome Legacy Charter on Sept. 26.
Holy Trinity 38, Astronaut 14
In Titusville, Holy Trinity defeated Astronaut. The Tigers scored 14 points in the first quarter after Rico Buitrago threw touchdown passes to Jaeden McMillan and Aaron Raines.
McMillan also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Buitrago in the second quarter. Buitrago connected with Kriston Gibson on a 3-yard touchdown pass in the quarter to put Holy Trinity ahead 38-14 at halftime. The Tigers remained in front for the rest of the game.
The War Eagles (3-2) go on the road to play Bayside for Week 6. Holy Trinity (4-1) plays host to John Carroll Catholic on Oct. 3 following a bye.
Satellite 24, Atlantic (Port Orange) 7
The Scorpions remain Brevard County’s lone undefeated team after picking up a home win over Atlantic for Week 6 of the SSAA season. Satellite (6-0) will host Palm Bay next.
Space Coast 21, Celebration 7
Space Coast picked up a road win over Celebration. Kole Gamble returned a kick 80 yards for a touchdown and he caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Zion Sandy in the win for Space Coast. Bradyn Cook also scored for the Vipers after he scored a 10-yard rushing touchdown. The Vipers (4-1) travel to Cocoa Beach for their next game.
Spruce Creek 29, Titusville 22
In Port Orange, the Terriers lost a close game on the road to Spruce Creek.
Alex Christian caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from William Billingsley to give Titusville an early lead. Tank Harvey extended Titusville’s lead after he scored on a 8-yard run in the second quarter.
Spruce Creek quarterback PJ Miller threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to put the Hawks ahead 22-14 at halftime.
Billingsley threw a touchdown pass to Deion Bland to tie the game for Titusville in the third quarter. Cameron Oxendine caught his third touchdown pass of the night from Miller in the fourth quarter to help give Spruce Creek the win.
Titusville (2-3) goes to Eau Gallie for a Week 6 district game.
Viera 44, Tohopekaliga 22
In Kissimmee, Viera won its Week 5 game over Tohopekaliga. The Hawks (3-2) will go to Cocoa Beach for the next game on Oct. 3 after a bye.
Centennial 61, Bayside 14
Bayside fell to Centennial on the road Thursday, Sept. 18. Elijah Grimsley scored a rushing touchdown and also caught a touchdown pass from Joey Costa in the game for Bayside. The Bears (2-3) host Astronaut next on Sept. 26.
Donahue Catholic 26, Merritt Island Christian 20
The Cougars fell in their game against Donahue Catholic. Bode Handwork threw two touchdown passes, to John Hey and Emmerson Hahn, for Merritt Island Christian. Hahn also finished with a rushing touchdown. The Cougars (3-1) host Calvary Chapel next week.
Four Corners 36, Calvary Chapel 0
The Eagles dropped their home game against Four Corners. Calvary Chapel (2-3) goes to Merritt Island Christian next.
