A pair of teams from the Wild West will take the field in South Florida for a New Year’s Day showdown in the College Football Playoff.
No. 5 Oregon (12-1) will face No. 4 Texas Tech (12-1) in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens in a CFP quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET.
The Ducks are making their second consecutive appearance in the CFP and hoping to avoid another quarterfinal exit after losing 41-21 to eventual national champion Ohio State in the Rose Bowl last season.
Unlike last year, Oregon played in the opening round of the CFP on Dec. 20, defeating James Madison 51-34 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.
Texas Tech, arguably the most unheralded program of the remaining playoff teams, is making its College Football playoff debut after enjoying a first-round bye as one of the CFP’s top four overall seeds.
The Red Raiders have thrived in 2025 under head coach Joey Maguire, who guided the Red Raiders to a 12-1 season and the program’s first Big 12 Championship.

Oregon was favored by 2.5 points as of 11 p.m. Tuesday according to Hard Rock Sportsbook. Perhaps it’s a nod to the Ducks’ CFP experience last season, parsing what might otherwise be a toss-up.
