Whether you’re a seasoned collector, or simply curious, Gulf Coast Shell Club’s 27th annual two-day show at FSU Panama City on July 18-19 offered fun for all ages.
Some of the toes-in-the-sand finds included scientific and artistic exhibits, exotic and rare shells, knowledgable vendors, children’s activities, raffles, and information about joining the shoreline club.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve gone to the beach and I’ve always been collecting shells,” Jennifer Goettsch, Gulf Coast Shell Club’s treasurer, said at an information booth. “So, when I moved here about a year and a half ago, they had a shell show and I went to it and I said, ‘You know, that’s something I could get into.’ “
In addition to the annual shell show, the club organizes field trips for members. Earlier this year they went to Cedar Key, Goettsch added.
The seashell party of 120 meets every second Tuesday of the month at the Bay County Public Library and about 20-30 people show up, Goettsch said.
