Get ready for next TCPalm Teacher of the Week polls, nominations

Thank you, readers.

For the past year, you have provided us with amazing Treasure Coast teachers to feature in TCPalm’s inaugural Teacher of the Week polls. The feature has become one of TCPalm’s most popular features, as we were able to highlight local teachers making a difference for their students and schools.

The TCPalm Teacher of the Year — selected from the Top 16 teachers — was announced May 8. Look for our feature this week on the winner. TCPalm compiled a Top 16 list of teachers who received the most votes over the past year during their featured week. Those 16 teachers were placed in a bracket-style, four-round poll to determine the TCPalm Teacher of the Year.

Now, as schools wind down their remaining weeks of the year, TCPalm is ready to launch a new year of Teacher of the Week polls. The new polls begin May 31, when we return to having one poll of four teachers.

Each Teacher of the Week poll launches on Sunday, with the names and schools of that week’s nominees. Poll voting ends noon Fridays, when the Teacher of the Week is announced.

Now is the time to nominate your favorite teacher. Any current teacher or coach from an Indian River, St. Lucie or Martin county public, private or charter school; after-school program; summer camp; or summer school is eligible to be nominated.

Teachers can be from a traditional classroom, a special area such as art, music or physical education; or a pullout instructor from a gifted program or speech therapy. Nominees also can be an after-school dance teacher, a tutor working at a community organization or athletic coach. Anyone can nominate a teacher — family members, students, parents, fellow educators or someone from the community. Just fill out the form and explain what makes this teacher special.

Teachers who are nominated but not listed in that week’s poll may be used in subsequent weeks. Only one submission is necessary, although more than one person can nominate a teacher.
