The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 4-0 on Friday in Atlanta, Georgia. FSU has won the last 27 games against Georgia Tech and is now 41-7 overall and 16-3 in ACC play.
Jazzy Francik was unhittable in the circle for FSU, throwing her second no-hitter of the season and third of her career. Georgia Tech’s got two base runners on in the first inning on an error and a walk before she retired 17 straight batters before issuing a one-out walk in the seventh inning.
She struckout one batter and needed just 87 pitches to complete the game, 51 of which were strikes. The celebration was muted for FSU as Marin Heller was run over by the base runner for the final out of the game and required attention.
It is the 121st no-hitter in FSU’s history and the first since she threw one against Samford on opening night of the season. She is the first Seminole since Meghan King to throw three or more complete-game no-hitters and the first since Kathryn Sandercock to throw two or more no-hitters or perfect games in the same season.
Isa Torres once again did her thing to start the game, crushing a home run to lead off the game and give the Seminoles an immediate 1-0 lead. She followed it up with another home run in the sixth inning, giving them a 2-0 lead.
It is the second straight game she has homered twice and the third multi-home run game of the season. She has now hit eight home runs in the past 11 games. Her previous season high in home runs was nine.
The rest of FSU’s offense was also able to get going in the sixth inning with Jaysoni Beachum following up her home run with a single before getting to second on a wild pitch. She was replaced by Angelee Bueno after Anna Hunde walked, and was replaced by Madi Frey. The moves paid off as they both came around to score on a two-out single by Bella Ruggiero, giving them a 4-0 lead.
FSU and Georgia Tech will return to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET for Game Two of the series. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
