The Florida State women’s soccer team can get one more game in Tallahassee if it knocks off Georgetown in their third-round NCAA tournament match today.
FSU, a No. 3 seed in the tournament, made a Heather Gilchrist goal in the 23rd minute stand up in a 1-0 win over Lipscomb on Nov. 20. The senior defender tapped in a corner kick from Taylor Suarez, who had a goal and two assists in the Seminoles’ 4-0 first-round win vs. Samford. Freshman Kate Ockene made one save and picked up her third straight shutout.
First-team All-ACC forward Jordynn Dudley will look to get on the board against pod host Georgetown, who needed penalty kicks to move past West Virginia in their second-round game. Lizzie Heller equalized after the Hoyas gave up an early goal, and the hosts advanced 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Because the region’s top seed, Notre Dame, got upset by Ohio State, today’s winner in Washington will host next week’s match with a place in the College Cup on the line.
