FSU lands commitment from elite in-state athlete

Florida State is back rolling on the recruiting trail. 2027 four-star athlete Za’Kari Johnson has committed to the Seminoles, according to Zach Blostein of 247Sports.

Johnson is the nation’s No. 349 overall recruit and the No. 21 athlete per 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 31 prospect in the state of Florida.

The 6-foot-1, 196-pounder performed well on both sides of the ball as a junior at Plantation High School. He racked up 777 rushing yards on 73 carries plus 551 passing yards with seven touchdowns to just three interceptions on offense. Johnson also registered 10 tackles, one interception, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery as a defensive back as well. He transferred to Miami Carol City High School for his senior year.

FSU hosted Johnson during one of their Junior Day events in January. That was his only visit outside of the trip he took last September when Florida State played the East Texas A&M Lions. So, the Seminoles got Johnson’s commitment with little time spent in person, which speaks to the persistence of the coaching staff.

Johnson is the 15th commitment for Florida State in the 2027 class and the third on Tuesday. They also landed 2027 five-star kicker Vance Fones and 2028 three-star tight end Troy Silberzahn.
