An upset of then No. 8 Alabama 31-17, and an absolute dismantling of the FCS East Texas A&M Lions 77-3 has put the Florida State Seminoles in a position they have not been in for quite a long time. With the weekly USA TODAY Sports college football re-rank, the climb continues for this team.
In last week’s poll, the Seminoles were ranked at 19th out of 136 teams. In his new re-rank of all 136 FBS teams in the country, Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports moved Florida State up to No. 14 following Week 2. That’s just two spots behind where they are positioned in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Surrounding the Seminoles are No. 12 Iowa State, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 South Florida (who moved up 29 spots this week), and No. 16 Ole Miss. By now, you’re pretty close to the top of college football’s best teams, with what many experts are considering as conference contenders, or at the very least, teams that are capable of holding their own.
Florida State is the second-best ACC team per Myerberg’s rankings, behind the Miami Hurricanes at No. 5. The Clemson Tigers have fallen all the way down to No. 25, and you won’t have to look far for another ACC team, as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are sitting at No. 29. They should continue to rise in this poll if they continue to win.
Florida State continues its quest for the climb when it welcomes the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sept. 20.
