Florida State baseball’s weekend in Atlanta ended in a blowout as Georgia Tech run-ruled the Seminoles, 17-3, to complete a sweep on Saturday, April 11.
A third consecutive sell-out crowd at Russ Chandler Stadium was treated to an offensive explosion from the No. 3 Yellow Jackets (30-5, 15-3 ACC). While the No. 5 Seminoles (24-11, 9-6 ACC) once again took the game’s first lead, something they did in each game of the series, Georgia Tech rallied back thanks to 2-out hitting (7-for-14) and a .500 average with runners in scoring position.
Bryson Moore started for the Seminoles, and he lasted three innings with two earned runs allowed. He struck out five and walked two, but things began to unravel for FSU after he was replaced.
After home runs from Brayden Dowd and Carter McCulley, and a sacrifice fly from Dowd, FSU held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. However, the Yellow Jackets scored 15 runs in two innings, including 10 runs in the sixth to blow open the game.
The Seminoles used six pitchers in three innings of work, allowing 13 hits and 15 runs, all earned, and Georgia Tech bashed three home runs. Caleb Daniel (1-for-4), Drew Burress (4-for-4), and Vahn Lackey (1-for-3) all homered in the sixth for Georgia Tech.
FSU’s offense failed to keep the game out of run-rule territory in the top of the seventh, with John Stuetzer the lone base runner in an inning that featured two strikeouts and a fly out.
What’s next for FSU baseball? Howser return vs. Stetson
