Former Florida baseball outfielder Blake Cyr appears to have signed his first professional contract with the New York Yankees, who selected him in the 18th round of the 2026 MLB Draft with the 548th overall pick.
While no official announcement has been made yet, Cyr posted a photo on his personal Instagram account on Thursday of himself posing with a pen and paper, with a poster in the background welcoming him to New York. MLB.com’s official draft tracker does not list an amount for his signing bonus yet, and his slot value is zero coming in that late in the draft.
Cyr arrived in Gainesville ahead of the 2025 campaign after spending his first two years with the Miami Hurricanes. As a senior last spring, he started all 56 games he appeared in, with 49 coming in left field and seven in right field, setting career highs in batting average (.316), hits (68), doubles (15) and runs (53) while swatting 14 homers along with one triple, 58 RBI and 20 walks in 215 at-bats; he got on base at a .398 clip and stole six bases in eight tries.
The Windermere, Florida, native did not commit an error until the final game of the season, finishing with a .990 fielding percentage and one assist over 104 defensive chances. He earned a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings Second Team Southeast All-Region for his efforts in 2026.
During his junior year — his first with the Gators — the 5-foot-11-inch Cyr started in 57 of his 59 appearances, with 54 coming in left field, two at second base and one at designated hitter. He slashed .254/.358/.429 for a .787 OPS with nine homers, nine doubles, 45 runs scored, 34 RBI, 26 walks and eight steals across 205 at-bats, while posting a .966 fielding percentage in 87 chances in the outfield and an .889 mark over nine chances at second base.
Before joining the Gators, Cyr played in 85 games for Miami across his freshman and sophomore seasons, slashing .298/.418/.593 with 34 homers, 15 doubles and 84 RBI over 295 at-bats. Following his freshman season in 2023, he made the All-ACC Freshman Team and was a consensus Freshman All-American.
