Florida State Esports defeats Oklahoma Baptist, advances to CCA Semifinals

Florida State Esports keeps on winning. On Sunday, the Splatoon team defeated the Oklahoma Baptist Buffaloes 5-2 in a best-of-nine set, advancing to the Collegiate Cephalopod Association’s Division 7 semifinals.

Florida State got out to an impressive 4-0 lead as the Goldies went undefeated in the Rainmaker and Clam Blitz modes. OBU managed to win two games after FSU’s lead, but the Goldies clinched the match when a knockout was scored on Rainmaker in the Robo ROM-en map.

FSU Splatoon advances to the CCA semifinals for just the third time in program history, with the last time they were at the stage coming in 2023, when they won the National Championship. In 2022, the first iteration of the team lost in the semifinals but were able to secure the third-place match victory.

Team captain Ghastomnight said it best, “I feel like this semifinal appearance means so much to me because it feels like a true culmination of all the time and effort we put in to coordinate together and play as a team. I can see the massive amount of improvement we made together, and it makes me super proud of us as a captain and as a teammate.”

Revolution, a newcomer to the team, has not been coy about the challenges. “It’s been a major learning experience for me not just as a Splatoon player, but as a person in general,” he said. “I’m so glad that I’ve gotten the opportunity to do this and have such an amazing run so early in my competitive experience.”

The Goldies will either face UC Santa Cruz in the Semifinals. The time and date for FSU’s semifinal game is to be determined. Fans can stay updated by following @FSUSplatoon on X.
