Florida judge to decide if county commission candidate stays on ballot

A trial has been set to determine whether the Aug. 18 Martin County Commission election will have three candidates or two.

A judge is to decide whether Susan O’Rourke’s name will stay on the ballot. O’Rourke, Christopher Collins and Althea Wiley Stoudemire are vying for the District 2 seat, currently held by Stacey Hetherington, who is not seeking reelection.

Judge William Roby will hear arguments from 2-4 p.m. July 15 in Room A31 in the Martin County Courthouse, 100 Southeast Ocean Blvd., Stuart.

Collins filed a lawsuit against O’Rourke and Martin County Supervisor of Elections Vicki Davis, alleging O’Rourke lied about where she lived when she filed paperwork to qualify to run.

Collins is a chiropractor and former mayor of Stuart, O’Rourke is a traffic engineer and Stoudemire is a chef, author and Realtor.
