The FSU Seminoles already have one running back committed in Amari Thomas, but they are looking to add a second to their 2026 recruiting class. One of their top targets is Derrek Cooper, a five-star prospect from Hollywood, Florida.
He recently visited the Seminoles for an official visit, and he admitted they were once again a factor in his recruitment. He echoed those thoughts on social media, posting on X about his visit.
“FSU was amazing visit” he wrote. He included some photos from the visit, including him wearing the turquoise Seminole heritage jerseys. He also included a shot of himself and FSU head coach Mike Norvell.
The Seminoles will have to beat out several elite programs for Cooper, who is one of the top running backs in the country. He is ranked as the No. 30 overall player and No. 2 athlete in the 247Sports composite rankings. The Chaminade-Madonna star is also the No. 2 player from Florida.
He has excelled on both sides of the ball and is good enough to play on either side of the ball in college. He is being recruited as a running back though, and it is not hard to see why. He ran for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 124 carries, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. On the defensive side, he recorded 46 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.
