FHP: Jay man critically injured after being ejected from vehicle in Chumuckla Hwy crash

A Jay man was critically injured after being ejected from his vehicle during a crash on Chumuckla Highway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on July 12 near the intersection of Chumuckla Highway (County Road 197) and Rolling Acres Road.

A 26-year-old Jay man was traveling westbound on Rolling Acres Road approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Chumuckla Highway,. A 48-year-old man from Pace was traveling northbound on Chumuckla Highway approaching the intersection of Rolling Acres Road.

The 26-year-old failed to yield the right of way and traveled through a stop sign, and as a result the 48-year-old’s vehicle crashed into the front left side of his truck, the FHP release said.

The 26-year old was ejected from his truck and transported to a local hospital by helicopter in critical condition.

The driver of sustained minor injuries and was not transported.

Chumuckla Highway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours following the collision. The FHP’s investigation continues to discover if alcohol may have been a factor or not.
