FHP: 3 bicyclists seriously injured when pickup hits group in DeLand

A pickup hit eight bicyclists near DeLand on May 9, leaving three with serious injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 7 a.m. at East Voorhis and Wade avenues.

The bicyclists were in a group traveling on East Voorhis Avenue when the 2015 Chevy Silverado struck them, then nearly hit an SUV, which crashed into a nearby parked car, FHP reported.

Three bicyclists seriously injured in DeLand when pickup hits their group

The driver of the pickup, a 30-year-old DeLand man, was not injured and remained on scene, according to FHP.

Three of bicyclists were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with serious injuries, FHP said. A fourth rider was taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say the bicyclists were from DeLand, DeBary and Lake Mary.

The accident remains under investigation.
