The Fourth of July holiday just around the corner, and many Floridians are making plans for the long weekend. If you’re spending time outdoors, the weather will be an important factor to keep in mind, especially the dangerous heat.

A heat dome is expected to settle over Florida this week, sending temperatures well above normal. According to AccuWeather meteorologist Alex DaSilva, afternoon highs could reach as much as 6 degrees above the historical average in some parts of the state. Combined with high humidity, heat index values are expected to climb well above 100 degrees, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses.
