Evaluating Jaguars' QB Trevor Lawrence's preseason play vs. Steelers

Not surprisingly, it was a short outing for Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who played just one series, but it was an effective and efficient showing from him.

The Jaguars won the opening coin toss and elected to receive, giving Lawrence and the offense the ball to begin.

Lawrence finished that possession completing 6-of-7 passes for 43 yards. He helped lead a 12-play, 44-yard drive that ended in a Cam Little Field goal to give the Jaguars an early 3-0 lead.

The Liam Coen offense was on full display during this opening series. We saw the screen game, a jet sweep to Dyami Brown, the quick game, and Lawrence attacking the middle of the field.

By my count, of Lawrence’s seven pass attempts, four were over the middle.

Another staple of Coen’s offense is spreading the ball around, which Lawrence did. Of his six completions, five different pass-catchers had a reception.

The Jaguars were 0-for-2 on third downs that drive, but converted their fourth down attempt and did well to avoid third down situations.

The offensive line did well to give Lawrence time as he looked very much in command and in control of this new-look offense.
