Elite transfer pitcher commits to FSU baseball

Link Jarrett and the FSU baseball team entered the offseason needing to add several starting pitchers, and on Thursday, they landed an elite one. Former UConn Husky star Cayden Suchy committed to the Seminoles, announcing the news on Instagram.

Suchy was named the Big East Pitcher of the Year after a breakout sophome season. The lefty went 5-3 with a 2.72 ERA over 89.1 innings, finishing with 105 strikeouts. He held opponents to a .231 batting average, walking 23 and hitting four in 15 starts. He is ranked as the No. 10 player in the transfer portal by Baseball America.

He is from Sterling, Virginia, and will have two seasons of eligibility for the Seminoles. FSU’s entire weekend rotation has a solid shot to be taken in the 2026 MLB Draft, with Wes Mendes expected to be an early-round pick and Trey Beard and Bryson Moore both being draft-eligible and coming off solid seasons.

Suchy gives Jarrett and pitching coach Micah Posey a proven pitcher who can fill one of those spots. The 6-foot, 192-pounder routinely worked deep into games, pitching 6.0 or more innings in 10 of his starts and throwing one complete game. He has some experience against power conference opponents, making starts against Kansas State and Arizona this season.

While UConn lost both games, Suchy was not why. He pitched 6.0 innings against Kansas State, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk, striking out nine. He pitched 6.2 against Arizona, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks, striking out five.

Suchy is the second transfer that FSU has landed this offseason, with both potentially working on the mound for the Seminoles. FAMU two-way slugger Jackson McKenzie committed on Tuesday, and while he is a better hitter, he also pitched out of the bullpen for the Rattlers and is another lefty for Posey to work with.
