What time was the crash? Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman James Lucas said crews received the call at 6:27 p.m. and arrived at 6:36 p.m. The victim was pronounced deceased at 6:37 p.m.

Rescue officials performed an extrication on the individual after Medical Examiner’s Office officials took pictures and did their investigation. The victim was partially pinned underneath the vehicle.

Where was the crash? In the 9900 block of Northwest County Road 225A, not far from County Road 326.

Which agency is investigating the crash? Florida Highway Patrol.

What happened? Troopers said an older model Chevy Silverado driven by a man was northbound on CR 225A. Officials said the vehicle failed to negotiate a left curve and veered right onto a grassy shoulder.

From there, the pickup truck struck several obstacles, including an electrical box, a tree and tree branches. The vehicle overturned onto its roof, partially ejecting the driver. Officials don’t believe he was wearing a seatbelt.

It’s unknown why the vehicle ran off the road, or if speed was a factor, officials said.

Any information about the driver? Officials identified the victim only as a 59-year-old man from Dunnellon. Authorities said the driver was staying with family in the area and was on his way to them when the crash occurred.

Was traffic blocked? No. Drivers traveling in both directions slowed and allowed each other to pass.

Fatal traffic crashes so far this year in Marion County: FHP officials said at this time last year, there were 65 fatalities in traffic crashes. As of Sept. 11 this year, troopers said, the number was 50. In 2024, 100 people died in traffic crashes in Marion County.

The figures do not include crashes that happened in the cities of Ocala, Belleview or Dunnellon.
