Dolphins named 'best fit' for offensive lineman with 140 career starts

The Miami Dolphins are lacking talent as they prepare for the 2026 season, the first under new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and head coach Jeff Hafley.

While the Dolphins are trying to rebuild and are taking on some large cap hits this year, they could definitely benefit in the short term by signing at least one more veteran in free agency.

In a recent post, ESPN’s Matt Bowen identified Miami as the best fit for offensive tackle Taylor Decker.

“Decker had an 89.3% pass block win rate in 2025 with Detroit, the second-lowest rate of his 10-year career. If he can prove to be healthy, however, he has the toughness and intangibles to win a starting role with most NFL teams,” Bowen wrote. “In Miami, Decker would compete for the left tackle spot with third-year pro Patrick Paul. The Dolphins drafted former Alabama left tackle Kadyn Proctor last month, but he is expected to slot in at left guard in 2026.”

Decker, 32, has started 140 games and made one Pro Bowl in his career, and while he’s proven to be a capable starting tackle in this league, he doesn’t exactly fit the Dolphins’ timeline.

Miami shouldn’t be focused on this year. They should be looking to see what they have in Paul and Proctor, as they could both be around for over a decade and could be big parts of their rebuild.

Unless Decker is willing to accept a backup role, the Dolphins should stay away at this point.
