Destin Sharks baseball team splits two tough games

After pulling off a 7-6 win against Donelson Christian Academy on March 10, the Destin High Sharks fell 10-5 to the visiting Bozeman Bucks of Panama City on March 11 at Morgan Sports Center in Destin. 

With the loss, the Sharks move to 8-3 on the season, and the Bucks sit at 11-3.

In the March 11 game with Bozeman, the Bucks got on the board first with three runs in the top of the third. 

The Sharks answered in the bottom with four runs to take the lead. 

Bozeman tied it up in the top of the fifth with a run and then started to pull away in the top of the sixth with three runs. 

In the top of the seventh, Bozeman put three more runs on the board for a 10-4 advantage. 

Destin scored one last run in the bottom of the seventh. 

Landon Ullrich, a senior, led the Sharks with a homer and a single for five RBIs. Caleb Wright, a senior, connected for two hits. Other Sharks with hits were Gavin Manthey, Brody Ray and Jaxx Emmert. 

Pitching for the Sharks were Wright, Emmert and Hunter Ray. 

Top batters for Bozeman were Cash Zirkle with a homer and a single; Zac Flitcraft, homer and a single; and Sawyer Purdie, two singles. 

On a foggy March 10 evening, the Sharks bounced back and forth with the Donelson Wildcats before taking the win. 

At the end of the second inning, Destin led 2-1. 

In the top of the third, Donelson scored three for a 4-2 lead. Destin evened the score in the bottom of the fourth with two runs. 

In the fifth, Donelson scored one run. Destin answered with two to take the lead 6-5. 

In the top of the sixth, Donelson scored one run to tie the game 6-6. 

The Sharks scored one to go up 7-6 and then held the Wildcats scoreless in the top of the seventh for the win. 

Top batter for the Sharks was Palmer Robbins with a double and two singles. Brody Ray and Bryson Perkins each connected for a double, while McCarver Dahlman and Ullrich each hit singles. 

Pitching for Destin were Perkins, Coleman Greele, Graham Herndon, and Philip Cryar.

Next home game for the Sharks is March 18 at 6 p.m. at Morgan Sports Center against Hope Christian Academy of Oxford, Alabama.
