More Daytona Beach Police officers will be on patrol during Bike Week

Daytona Beach Police will have a greater presence throughout the city during Bike Week as officers enforce traffic laws to reduce crashes and keep residents and visitors safe, according to a statement from the department.

The goal of officers will be “voluntary compliance” as they seek to prevent injuries and keep cars, trucks and motorcycles moving safely through the city, according to the statement. Police will continue to focus on areas with heavy traffic and with a history of crashes.

“Bike Week brings thousands of additional vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists into the community, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the area, making patience and attentiveness especially important,” the department stated.

Police said were no major changes in enforcement for Bike Week 2026 as compared to last year.

“The department stated: “Enjoy Bike Week responsibly, because whether riding, driving, walking, or visiting for the first time, safety is everyone’s responsibility.”

What will Daytona Beach police be focusing on during Bike Week?

Officers will be focusing on “common violations such as speeding and reckless driving, unsafe lane changes and aggressive driving, DUI.”

Police will also look for violations more common to motorcyclists, “such as a lack of proper eye protection as required by Florida law, and equipment violations like improper lighting or excessively loud exhaust systems.”

Daytona Beach Police: Bikers should wear proper gear

“Motorcyclists are encouraged to wear proper eye protection and DOT-compliant safety gear, obey posted speed limits, use turn signals, avoid weaving through traffic, exercise extra caution at intersections, ride sober, stay hydrated, and plan routes in advance while anticipating heavy congestion during peak hours,”

While not mentioned in the statement bikers should not rev their engines, like Sparky Betty Boop did on Friday.

Daytona Beach Police to drivers: Look twice for motorcycles

Drivers should “look twice for motorcycles, allow extra following distance, carefully check blind spots before changing lanes, remain patient in high-traffic areas, and avoid distractions while driving.”

Bike Week continues through March 8.
