CVS wants to help you keep your Fido healthy.
The pharmacy has launched a prescription medication program for dogs and cats where pet owners can have prescriptions filled for their furry family members to save time.
The pharmacy giant announced the new venture July 21 that the service is available at all 9,000 stores nationwide, including in Florida.
CVS is not alone in filling prescriptions for pets; Walmart began a pet prescription service in 2019 and Publix has had a program since 2020.
The CVS pharmacies can fill pet-only subscriptions that include antibiotics, medicine for allergies, flea and tick control, insulin, and pain relievers.
It’s all part of the company’s expansion into essential pet care to help busy people and to make sure pets receive the medications they need conveniently.
The pet industry is huge in the U.S., where the American Pet Products Association projects $165 billion in pet-related sales for 2026.
A breakdown is $69.7 billion for pet food and treats, $35.6 billion for supplies and over the counter medications, $42.4 billion in veterinary care and products and $14.9 billion in “other” expenses, according to the association.
What else to know
Pet prescriptions are eligible for many of the same pharmacy services at CVS as their owners.
That includes automatic refills and prescription syncing to help simplify ongoing care. Select medications may also be available for delivery.

How do you get started?
Pet owners simply need to present a written prescription or ask their veterinarian to contact the pharmacy directly.
Once their CVS receives the prescription, the pet owner can choose to pick it up in the store or opt to have it delivered, if eligible.
Pet owners can add their pets to their CVS.com profile and manage eligible pet prescriptions through the CVS Health app.
Electronic prescription service for pet medications will be added in the coming months.
