Prosecutors have declined to file charges against a conservative investor who Palm Beach Police had said pushed his pregnant girlfriend at The Breakers Palm Beach resort, court records show.
The Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office on May 18 filed a notice that it declined to formally charge 33-year-old Alexander Spellane of California with felony aggravated battery on a person who he knew or should have known was pregnant.
“Insufficient evidence exists to prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt due to an uncooperative victim and lack of independent evidence,” Assistant State Attorney Chad Avery Lyle wrote in the filing, which is a requirement to close the case.
Palm Beach Police had arrested Spellane on April 23 after they said he pushed his pregnant girlfriend into the hallway from a guest room at The Breakers Palm Beach resort on South County Road. Spellane was released from the Palm Beach County Jail the following day on a $10,000 bond. With the case closed, the bond will be returned to him, court records show.
Spellane is a gold and precious metals investor and trader who has positioned himself as a face for young conservatives. He hosted 15 episodes of a conservative podcast, with guests that included former New York City mayor Giuliani, who was an attorney for President Donald Trump.
In March, Spellane was part of a main-stage panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference outside Dallas, and his Fisher Capital Group has been a top sponsor of past Turning Point Action conferences.
