‘Get Ready: Old School Motown’
Allengang Entertainment’s upcoming show, “Get Ready: Old School Motown” delivers an abundance of soul, style and sophistication with the distinctive retro sounds of Motor City.
At 7 p.m. on Aug. 29, tribute performers will channel all the Motown major players at Merritt Island Moose Lodge 2073, 3150 North Courtenay Pkwy. Get reacquainted with legends such as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, Four Tops, Aretha Franklin and other greats in a polished performance that will take listeners back in time.
The audience can expect to hear such standards as “Get Ready,” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine,” “My Girl,” “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “Respect,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” “Stop in the Name of Love,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Love Train” and many more.
Allengang’s The Crew will provide backup instrumentation for the tribute artists during a concert that includes two sets and costume changes. The Moose Lodge venue boasts a 7,200-square-foot ballroom with new stage lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system
The famous Motown record label was founded in Detroit, Michigan in the late 1950s by Berry Gordy III. Known for the star-studded rhythm and blues singers and groups on its roster, Motown’s sound combined the emotional power of Black gospel music with jazz syncopation and bright pop hooks. Billing itself as the “Sound of Young America,” Motown reached its height in the mid-1960s through the early 70s, but the label continues strong to this day. History may remember Motown music best for breaking down racial barriers and popularizing the vibrant musical blend that crossed over to mainstream global audiences and launched the careers of legendary Black superstars.
“Motown music brings people together, and this group captures that magic from the very first note,” said Allengang CEO Stan Allen.
Seating for the 90-minute performance is at round tables of eight persons. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; popular pub fare and beverages will be available for purchase at the full liquor bar. Guests of members are invited to remain after the show and enjoy the club’s amenities during, “Moose After Dark,” post-concert entertainment provided by popular local deejays.
