Five teams are set in the knockout stage and the remaining 11 look to join them as the Club World Cup continues.
Group C began the day with a matchup at the top of the group between Benfica and Bayern Munich. Bayern are undefeated so far after a 10-0 versus Auckland City and a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors. They can clinch first in their group with a win or draw. Their opponent beat Auckland 6-0 in their last matchup and will need a win or draw to confirm their placement in the knockout stage.
Auckland and Boca Juniors face off in Nashville, TN. Boca lost a close game to German giants on June 20 and put themselves in a tough situation. The Argentine team will need a win and Bayern to beat Benfica for a chance in the knockout stage.
Flamengo were the first team to win a group in this new Club World Cup format and already have a matchup with either Boca Juniors, Bayern, or Benfica in the knockout stage. Flamengo take on LAFC in a game with no stakes as LAFC are already eliminated from the competition. Flamengo beat Chelsea FC on June 20, 3-1, in one of the best games of the competition so far.
Chelsea will look to clinch a spot into the next round as they face off against Tunisia’s Espérance. Both teams sit at three points and the winner of the game will claim second in Group D. The English club failed to beat Flamengo while Espérance pulled out the 1-0 victory over LAFC.
