Chiles girls soccer finishes 5A runner-up after loss to Lourdes

Chiles’ bid for its first girls’ soccer state title in program history fell short Saturday, as the Timberwolves were shut out by Miami Lourdes Academy, 3–0, in the FHSAA Class 5A championship match.

Lourdes controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and limited Chiles’ chances in the attacking third. The Bobcats broke through late in the first half to take a 1–0 lead into the break, then added two more goals in the second half to put the match out of reach and seal the program’s latest state crown.

The Timberwolves finished as state runner‑up for the second time, matching their 2005 postseason run. Chiles closed the season at 15‑4‑1 and entered the title match ranked No. 10 nationally by MaxPreps.

Eight seniors will graduate from this year’s squad, including Georgia signee Kyra Swart along with Charlotte Reynolds, Jada Bartusek and Hannah Hassell. The Timberwolves return a strong sophomore core led by Kendall Sadberry, who scored 16 goals this season, and goalkeeper Gracie Gerteisen, who recorded 72 saves.

Despite the loss, Chiles leaves the season with a state finals appearance, national recognition and a foundation strong enough to keep the program in championship contention.
