Has anyone forgotten the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2024?
Florida wasn’t in the path of totality — remember that phrase?! — but there was still plenty of excitement as we scrambled to find eclipse glasses or turned to Google to find out how we could safely watch the moon pass between Earth and the sun.
Another solar eclipse is coming soon, on Aug. 12.
Unfortunately for Florida residents, we’re nowhere near the path of totality. To see the total eclipse, you would need to head to Greenland or Iceland, or watch a livestream of the event.

If seeing a partial solar eclipse is OK, you won’t need to go as far, since that will be visible across northern North America, according to NASA.
If you’re content to wait, nearly all of Florida will be in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse in 2045.
As you wait, here’s what you should know about the Aug. 12 solar eclipse.

Will partial view of solar eclipse be visible in Florida or any other state?
Many other places in the Northern Hemisphere will experience a partial solar eclipse on Aug. 12, according to NASA, but Florida isn’t one of them.
A partial solar eclipse will be visible:
“Those in the U.S. and southern Canada will see only a small ‘bite’ taken out of the solar disk as the moon appears to just clip the sun,” according to NASA.
Will total solar eclipse be livestreamed?
Yes. NASA will livestream the solar eclipse on several platforms starting at 1:15 p.m. ET, including:

“A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the sun,” NASA said.
When will be next total solar eclipse visible across US?
You’ll have to wait awhile.
“For the United States, the next total solar eclipse with totality crossing U.S. soil is March 30, 2033, with the path running through Alaska,” according to AccuWeather.
The next total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044, according to NASA.
Florida in prime location for 2045 solar eclipse
On Aug. 12, 2045, a total solar eclipse will be visible over almost all of Florida, according to NationalEclipse.com.

The maximum duration of totality for this eclipse will be 6 minutes and 6 seconds, according to NationalEclipse.com.
