Café L’Europe in Palm Beach launches weekend brunch with new menu

Having recently earned Town Hall’s approval to serve daytime meal service on weekends, Café L’Europe in Palm Beach, known for its popular dinner scene, is kicking off weekly Saturday and Sunday brunch.

Brunch service at the restaurant, 331 S. County Road, started May 30.

The brunch menu overseen by executive chef Alain Krauss includes an omelet du jour with a petite salad and toast ($26); eggs Benedict ($28); chicken pot pie ($32); and salade Nicoise ($36).

Avocado toast ($21) and a chicken club sandwich ($28) are among other dishes on the menu.

Because brunch in Palm Beach is often considered incomplete without certain beverages, Café L’Europe will feature a variety.

Among them are non-alcoholic drinks, plus such brunch classics as bellinis ($19), French pear mimosas ($19) and loaded Bloody Marys ($23).

Café L’Europe joins other French-inspired restaurants in town that serve weekend brunch, often with Mediterranean and American dishes included in the offerings.

Popular brunch spots include Le Bilboquet, 245 Worth Ave.; Café Boulud at The Brazilian Court, 301 Australian Ave.; and La Goulue, 288 S. County Road.

With a notably longer history than those restaurants, Café L’Europe debuted in 1980 with black-tie waiters, Champagne corks popping and dazzled guests.

Waiters haven’t worn black tie for years at the restaurant, which moved to its current location in 1995, but Champagne still flows and is expected to do so during brunch, when mimosas, for one, rely on bubbly.

The Palm Beach Town Council on May 13 approved Café L’Europe’s plan to serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays — a compromise after the restaurant’s request for weeklong lunch service did not earn officials’ favor.

“We are here for our community 365 days a year,” Jennifer Marcello told the council at its May 13 development-review meeting. “Café L’Europe is a labor of love for the Marcello family.”

The council voted unanimously to approve a declaration of use agreement — a document that lays out the conditions under which a business can operate in town — for Café L’Europe to offer service on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. until dinner service begins.

Reservations for brunch are recommended. Details about are available by calling the restaurant at 561-655-4020 or visiting CafeLeurope.com.
