The hype train that is coming with Rueben Bain Jr. is one of the more impressive ones in recent memory for a draft pick. He was projected to be one of the top picks before a discussion about his arm length led to him falling to the 15th spot, where the Bucs happily scooped him up.
In rookie minicamp, Bain made a tremendous first impression, and the coaching staff is already hyping him up with a notable player comparison. Outside linebacker coach Larry Foote spoke to the media this week and spoke about Bain while offering up a comparison to a former teammate of his: James Harrison.
Foote shared his comparison for Bain, saying, “Back in my Pittsburgh days, I played with a guy named James Harrison like that. It was just, you couldn’t block him. He has that trait, he has that ability.”
There were not many more effective or scarier players in recent NFL history than Harrison. If the Bucs get half as much out of Bain as the Steelers got out of Harrison, they will be in good shape. For a team that has struggled to find a consistent, dominant presence off the edge, having someone who draws comparisons to Bain is a good sign that they may finally have that answer.
