The question was swirling about whether the Bucs would be able to both afford and lock up one of their franchise-building blocks before the season. Of course, in true Jason Licht fashion, he got the job done, and now there is one less loose end for the franchise heading into Week 1.
Rick Stroud of The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that the Bucs and right tackle Luke Goedeke have reached an agreement on an extension. Ian Rapaport of NFL Media reported the contract details as being for four years, $90 million, with $50 million being guaranteed.
Goedeke joined the Bucs after being drafted in the second round out of Central Michigan in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was a piece that the team worked to develop, and he turned into a franchise piece along the offensive line opposite Tristan Wirfs on the left side.
Goedeke was poised, as we mentioned, to hit the market next offseason, where the value for him would have been substantial. Instead, he is rewarded handsomely and will be the third-highest paid right tackle ($22.5 APY) behind just Penei Sewell of the Detroit Lions ($28 million) and Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles ($25 million).
His first test as a newly extended player will come on Sunday when the Bucs kick off the 2025 season against the Atlanta Falcons on the road.
